Bringing speculative, iterative, and transformative ideas together
In the past few decades, the entire fashion value chain has evolved as a vanguard and catalyst for societal change, cultural impact, and economic growth. This is a platform where people from the industry converge for insightful conversations and discussions and make actionable plans for the future of the global fashion industry and affiliated fields.
We are faced by three kinds of temporalities calling for immediate attention and action in the current global situation:
The Emergent
The aftermath of the recent global pandemic has compelled us to reform fashion consumption, and recalibrate our future endeavors in material diversity, resource exchange, emergent philosophies, and beyond.
The Urgent
This agenda explores the relation of fashion and nature, the habit and habitat and its impact that surfaces with assembled perspectives and actions.
The Incumbent
The recent progressive experiments have reimagined the makers’ space, connected the consumer to the artisans, while celebrating craftsmanship and appreciating their skills.

Fashioning Resurgence
“The fashion industry has evolved manifolds over the last decade. Today, we have young creative minds who are willing to experiment, innovate and trust technology, making it a solid recipe for success. Technology along with data will play a key role in shaping the future of the fashion industry. While business decisions rely on data-based visible consumption trends, Artificial intelligence will emerge as an important technology to provide a real-like experience to the consumers, in the comfort of their homes.”
Fashioning Resurgence
“Fashion has always been sustainable, but our relationship with it has become untenable. Therefore, it is vital that we revive and mend how fashion is perceived and consumed. We hope to celebrate the good practices and positive moves undertaken by stakeholders through a series of discourses at IFFTI 2021.”
Fashioning Resurgence - The Incumbent
“A need to go back. Back to the primordial. Back to the root. Back to the forager lifestyle. Back to trace our footsteps that isolated us from the ecosystem, the tradition & the communal. The answers lie not in the future but in the past, in the systems of the old- when scarcity was abundant. It is time to identify and heal consumerist addiction through value addition that may not come from futuristic tech, but from the maker’s hand.”
Fashioning Resurgence
“Society and the world is once again steeped with urgent problems. Whose responsibility is it to take the lead? Fashion historically has influenced local and global economies and culture. It is time to look at using this influence to fashion the resurgence we need. Bring your ideas to IFFTI 2021.”
Fashioning Resurgence - The Emergent
“Historically, each crisis has paved the way for major innovations and changes in the fashion industry. The best examples are the work of Chanel in women’s wear and “the new look” created by Christian Dior between the two World Wars and the way they have introduced new materials and design solutions. Certainly the ‘covid 19’ pandemic will be the next trend setter. As the younger generation is witnessing the crisis, possibly they will be driving this new chapter. One of the possible directions that the fashion industry might undertake is towards a slowing down and rethinking of processes with enhancement of local talents and activities. This might appear as an emerging trend by creating new opportunities to new professionals and to new ways of doing things.”
Fashioning Resurgence - The Emergent
“There is an enormous effort being put in to develop a wide array of innovative and sustainable fabrics by the industry. There is the emergence of a woke customer that has encouraged the producer to experiment with textiles with a conscience. There needs to be an urgent movement towards eco-textiles both by the global industry and individual designers.”
Fashioning Resurgence
“Fashion is a reflection of our lifestyle. Given the cataclysmic metamorphosis we are going through in recent times, it becomes more than necessary for fashion in all its avatars to address socio-economic, environmental and lifestyle issues. IFFTI is a platform that has never hesitated to bring contemporary matters affecting humanity to the table through its global conferences, publications and regional chapters. IFFTI 2021 is another such event, and I for one am looking forward to hearing about, discussing and contributing to the Fashion Resurgence and impacting our global community”
Fashioning Resurgence
“Real time is going to be a big player in the future of fashion where you can personalise with the help of digital encoding. What prudent consumers desire will become a priority, so there will be a rise in the need for a more individualised wardrobe, which is comfortable yet innovative and provides a certain mood enhancement.”
